ForagE+ Performance Horse Feed
ForagE+ Performance Horse Feed was designed for performance horses but works excellently with all horses. It has an ultra-low NSC of 9.8% so it is recommended for use in metabolic, cushing, lamnitic, and foundered horses. Its feeding rate is 10lbs/1100lb moderately worked horse. Most find their moderately worked horses only need 8lb of feed/day. No additional alfalfa is needed but we are of the firm believe horses should have full digestive systems - so we promote grazing and/or grass hay available at all times. This feed is balanced and complete. No additional supplements or top dressings are recommended.

Why a Forage Feed
Feeding your horse a forage diet is the best way to support their health and well-being, reflecting the natural grazing behavior of horses. Prioritizing forage helps to promote equine digestive function, supports metabolic health, aids in weight management, and fulfills behavioral needs while eliminating grains and ingredients scientifically shown to promote inflammation

Ingredient Choices
Alfalfa: a legume high protein hay. Alfalfa is nutrient dense in vitamins and minerals with ample calcium which acts as a natural buffer in the acidic gastric system of a horse. Alfalfa is rich in digestible fiber which supports hindgut health and microbial fermentation which are important to a healthy equine digestive system.

Beet Pulp:a highly digestible source of fiber providing energy and supporting a heathy digestive system. A great Pre-biotic that primes their digestive system to maintain its microbial system which promotes overall gut health. Many add this to their feeding regimen – we added it for you.

Flax seed: a source of high protein and fats and a superior provision of omega fatty acids. Flax is also a prebiotic promoting natural gut function. Flax seed is high in Omega 3 which is a strong anti-inflammatory fatty acid. It also contains Omega 6 but in smaller amount to prevent inflammation. Ideally you want more Omega 3 than Omega 6 to maintain anti-inflammatory properties. Flax oil /seed is in many top dressings that are added – we added it for you
Seaweed Kelp: Kelp is considered a complete protein – providing all amino acids including lysine and methiodine which are lacking in most amino acid profiles. Most feeds supplement these two amino acids to provide a complete profile. A complete amino acid profile is necessary for equine athletes to utilize their protein efficiently. Kelp is also a prebiotic naturally promoting gut health. Most “top line building supplements” are composed of amino acids because they are frequently lacking In horse feed. We have already built it into the feed for you.
Seaweed derived calcium: is a gastric buffer and source of bioavailable calcium in horses.

Vitamin E: Newest data is showing that performance horses require a minimum of 5000iu of Vitamin E daily. Natural vitamin E (D-alpha-tocopherol) is bioavailable and a great source of vitamin E. Synthetic vitamin E (DL-alpha tocopherol) is only around 50% bioavailable and therefore requires 2x as much- it is often only identified as “Vitamin E supplement. Vitamin E is a critical fat based vitamin for the nervous, circulatory, integumentary (coat/hoof), gastrointestinal, and muscular systems. We added 5000iu per daily feed because it is THAT important. Horses in drought prone areas are highly deficient in vitamin E.

Magnesium: Magnesium is integral to muscle and nerve function. It is the “relaxation” to calcium’s “contraction”. Performance horses require higher amounts of magnesium as they use more of it during work. Magnesium prevent muscle cramps and spasms and leads to a calmer more focused horse. Many owners supplement with magnesium top dressings – we added it so they don’t have to.

B complex: B vitamins are vital in the conversion of food to energy, for maintaining healthy nerve transmission, maintaining a healthy immune system, for the production of red blood cells (which carry oxygen), and for general overall health. What good is feeding high energy food when they cannot break it down and utilize it as it was intended? We added it for you so they can efficiently use the food you are spending money on.

Biotin: Biotin (B7) was added in addition to the B complex. It is essential for coat and hoof health and is a major component in top dressings to improve hoof health. Rather than top feed – we added it for you.

Salt: Salt is an essential electrolyte in the equine diet that supports hydration, muscle function, and nerve function. It is lost with sweat therefore performance horses need not only a constant supply but an increased constant supply. It is generally the 1st ingredient in any electrolyte supplement. We added some to decrease that need.
